The recent scare of the near-abduction incident involving 7-year-old Brittney Baxter has caused a disturbance in the community and parents are becoming more and more concerned about the safety of their children. Thankfully, Brittney kicked and screamed her way out of the 25-year-old predator’s hands, who had been recently released from prison.

“A lot of kids would have frozen with fear, this is a rare case. The solution is to empower our children and teach them to stand up for themselves,” said Hays.

Brittney is a very lucky little girl and she is a model of what every radKID should be. Child safety is becoming a bigger and bigger issue and the need for programs such as radKIDS is steadily growing.

“We don’t tell them to be safe we teach them how to be safe. Its about training the brain and that is where radKIDS is different. We teach them what an emergency is. We have them rehearse. A radKID will respond differently. A radKID will say “how dare you!” instead of “help me! help me!” said Hays.

7-year-old Brittney Baxer was grabbed in the toy aisle of a Wal-Mart as the alleged kidnapper covered her mouth and began to walk . Brittney kicked and screamed and the man let her go. Police believe that they have found the subject and he has been taken in for questioning. Store surveillance cameras were able to help officials identify the suspect along with an accurate description of his vehicle. Read the article here.

• Approximately 58,000 children a year are abducted by non-family members (including 115 stereotypical kidnappings.)
• In 40 percent of stereotypical kidnappings, the child was killed, and in another 4 percent, the child was not recovered.
• 85% of the time a child is abducted it involves the use of physical force.
• A study by the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children indicated that when children scream, kick, and physically resist an abduction, 83% of the time they are able to get away.
• 74% of the children that are murdered after a stereotypical abduction are killed within the first 3 hours of their abduction.
